D.A.I.R.R.C (Drug Abuse Information Rehabilitation & Research Centre) is a registered Charitable Trust involved in Rehabilitation through Community Living of behavioural disorders like Drug addiction, alcoholism, anxiety and depression since 1983, in Mumbai, India. It is also actively involved in HIV Awareness Programs since 1988.
We do not treat drug addicts or offer any medical treatment. We only rehabilitate them through community living and help them to reintegrate in society.
The Community Living Centre caters to luxury rehabilitation through community living that includes patients suffering from
substance abuse, alcoholism and depression. Most of the addicts suffer from Heroin addiction, Cocaine addiction, Solvent Abuse, addiction to Prescribed Medication, Methadone addiction and addiction to all Other Drugs of Abuse.
People diagnosed with anxiety, clinical depression and bi-polar disorders have also benefited from DAIRRC's Community Living rehabilitation program.
Founded by the late Dr. Yusuf Merchant, who expired in November 2022, the centre is now managed by a professional Board of Trustees, with a consultant psychiatrist and a consultant psychologist on call. The rehabilitation process remains unchanged and continues on the same parameters as designed by Doc.
For the first 15 years the community lived at the late doctor's own home. All people who wanted to join in the community were expected to be detoxified at a hospital or nursing home. Only once they were stabilised, they could join in the community living program. We only continue the medication that their psychiatrist prescribes.
DAIRRC is the premier Substance Abuse Prevention and Community Living Centre in India. It was established in 1982 in
Mumbai, India. Currently the Centre has a success rate of 85 percent (not inclusive of the dropouts) for its Luxury Rehabilitation through Community Living Program for the rehabilitation of the depressed and those who have given up drugs/alcohol.
DAIRRC activities encompass all fields involved in the Prevention, Identification, Cure, Rehabilitation and Research of Substance Abuse or drug addiction, alcoholism and depression.
DAIRRC is committed to substance abuse prevention strategies, including rehabilitation through community living
of drug addicts, implementation of drug demand reduction and HIV Prevention strategies and research in the causes and effects of drug abuse.
